Conosco was recently awarded Cyber Essentials certification, reflecting our ongoing commitment to cybersecurity.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Conosco Information Security Manager Hylton Stewart says: “The Cyber Essentials scheme was launched by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in June 2014 to provide a basic roadmap for organisations wishing to improve their cybersecurity. Since then, cybersecurity has become an even more vital component of all business operations.”
Cyber Essentials encourages organisations to adopt good information security practices. Its goal is to help companies protect themselves against common cyber-attacks.
The certification process involves being assessed against five basic security controls chosen to help to protect against unskilled internet-based attackers.
The five main technical controls are:
- Boundary firewalls and internet gateways
- Secure configuration
- Access control
- Malware protection
- Patch management
By implementing these basic cybersecurity measures, all types of organisations can significantly reduce their vulnerability to cyber-attacks.
Stewart says: “Obtaining the Cyber Essentials certification not only improves an organisation’s understanding of its current cybersecurity position, but also demonstrates its commitment to ensuring information security.
