Nowhere to hide

In-flight wireless connections are back - American Airlines has gone live and Delta and Lufthansa are due soon. This is the second attempt, after Boeing abandoned a similar service a few years ago.

AA and Delta are charging $12.95 for longer flights, but will apparently block voice-over-ip calls such as Skype - no doubt as much to preserve bandwidth as to protect revenues on the existing inflight handsets.

Meanwhile, Ryanair are waiting for clearance to allow passengers to use mobile phones during their flights. Whether that will include data access isn't clear.

All in all, good news for crackberry addicts - and terrible news for those who use long flights to escape the shackles of modern communications.
